Notes
(for the bird pictured above)?

Small mask area so I think this is a hen.
ヨーロッパ輸入鳥の子供です。生後4ヶ月の写真です。
マースクの面積が小さいので、多分メス。

General species notes:

Masks like to roost in a wicker nest. Give them cover as they can easily stress out. So they need a roosting nest. Don't destroy the roosting nest in winter of they can die (outside aviary).

Young are fully coloured by 3 months.

Notes:
Pair bonding is very strong in these birds. Bonding is best achieved when mixing with a large amount of young uncoloured masked finches. They will naturally pair better on their own. Masked finches are prone to pneumonia when kept in cooler climates. Ensure cages and aviaries floors are dry and kept away from cold draughts.

There is one subspecies of the nominate form called the White-eared Masked Grassfinch (Poephila personata leucotis). The subspecies is from the Cape York penninsua area, whereas the nominate species is found in the Kimberley region and across the Top end of Australia. I do not believe that the White-eared subspecies exists in U.S. aviculture. It is rare even in Europe. It looks very similar to the nominate form with a white area behind the face mask and some white in front of the trouser stripe.
